Purpose

The International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa was first established in 1984. Then it expanded to be the world’s only international glass exhibition with call for entry in 1988. This year marks the 13th anniversary an open call. In each of the past events, the exhibition received many excellent works from about 40 nations and regions around the world, and it has been highly recognized as “the world showcase of contemporary glass art.”
Kanazawa city is renowned as one of the representative traditional cities in Japan. The city is blessed with beautiful changes of nature in distinctive four seasons. Many traditional arts and crafts have developed including lacquer ware, ceramics, and many more. People in Kanazawa have treasured and utilized arts and crafts works in their everyday lives. This exhibition has been repeated for the purpose of introducing new glass culture to Kanazawa and stimulating creativity in the field of traditional arts and crafts as well as local industries.
The Executive Committee hopes that this exhibition will help explore the potential of glass from daily utensils to new artistic expressions. We look forward to receiving a wide variety of stunning glass works from home and abroad.
